The Sanità district represents the true soul of Naples.
From the ancient cult of the Souls of Purgatory to extraordinary architecture and the vibrant rhythm of everyday life, this neighborhood embodies the essence of Napoli.
The tour begins at the Materdei metro stop, one of the city’s renowned MetroArte stations.
The first stop is the Cemetery of the Fontanelle—a haunting and unforgettable site filled with mystery and devotion. The journey continues to the Basilica of Santa Maria alla Sanità, where visitors can admire a unique architectural marvel: a double-ramp pulpit that encircles the crypt and leads to the upper presbytery—a true rarity in European architecture.
Next are two late Baroque architectural treasures: Palazzo Sanfelice and Palazzo dello Spagnuolo. Along the way, guests will also visit the birthplace of one of Naples’ most cherished figures, Prince Antonio de Curtis, widely known as Totò.
As the tour winds through the lively Borgo Vergini market, it comes to a close at Porta San Gennaro—one of the oldest city gates, dedicated to Naples’ most beloved patron saint.
