The ancient Roman city of Herculaneum is a UNESCO World Heritage site and lies just north of Pompeii.
Herculaneum is the pearl of antiquity, a place loved by roman patricians for its great position overlooking the bay of Naples.
Destroyed and preserved caused the eruption of 79 AD under a blanket of ash, lapilli, and mud.
The site of Herculaneum was returned to us thanks to the first Bourbon excavations of the 18th century.
The archaeological site of Herculaneum is smaller than Pompeii, but, in addition to the ruins it offers the possibility to visit in a small museum, located near the ruins, the temporary exhibition “SplendOri” “luxury in Herculaneum ornaments”.
That is a great opportunity to admire the precious findings, and personal and everyday items that occurred in the archaeological area of Herculaneum.
